The Sentinel
Lauder, Borders, Scotland
In our never ending quest to boost land productivity, there has been a trend to removing trees from agricultural land. Tractors and combines work most efficiently in nice straight lines, rather than skirting round trees, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that here, the farmer had decided to leave this fine specimen standing in splendid isolation. With the rolling hills as a backdrop, it's as if it is standing guard over the surrounding countryside.
