England: Northumberland

Lying in the north east of England and bordering Scotland, Northumberland has survived many turbulent times and witnessed countless battles in its history. This has resulted in a legacy of numerous fine castles and historic buildings. It is bordered by the North Sea whose constant pounding has created beautiful long sandy beaches. Inland, an area of flat, fertile agricultural land gives way to sparsely populated, high moors.
